It’s Fab Friday, and Tuesday was the first day of spring! Hooray! We’re only just finally starting to get some more wintery-feeling (read: wet) weather here in Southern California, so I’m going to embrace that while it lasts, but I’ve also seen the mustard plants starting to bloom in the foothills near us, which means spring is definitely here. Do you have signs like that where you live?
I love when the seasons change, and there’s something about winter to spring especially that inspires me. It makes me want to do more, see more, be more! One thing is always the same, though: I always get the urge to make my house feel more like spring. But how exactly do you do that? How do you bring that springtime feeling inside? This week’s Fab Friday has got you covered!

1. Clean Up.
Step one is obvious, or at least it was to me. Who doesn’t love a little Spring Cleaning? Do that thing that you feel like you need to do, whether that’s decluttering something or rearranging or organizing or deep cleaning. (As for me, I’ve already been cleaning my house for Lent.) If you’re going to be using cleaning products for this step, I can’t recommend the Mrs. Meyers brand highly enough. They make a wonderful dish soap that I’ve been using for years, and I just snagged some multi-surface cleaner and have been loving it. I’m someone who is pretty sensitive to smells, but these don’t bother me at all. My absolute favorite is bluebell. It reminds me of that scent they used to spray on the Soarin’ Over California ride at Disney’s California Adventure (anyone know what I’m talking about?). It’s lightly woodsy with a hint of ocean breeze and citrus blossom… Anyway, if that’s not your thing, I love the Lemon Verbena and the Rosemary scents as well, though Rosemary feels a bit more wintery to me. They have a lot of scents, though, and you’ll probably find one you love! Tidy your home and leave it feeling fresh and springy.
2. Lighten Up.
Lighten up your linens, I mean! We have navy colored sheets that we love to use for fall and winter (so cozy!), but I always prefer to change them out to something lighter in the spring and summer. Change your bed sheets, pillowcases, duvet cover, bathroom towels, kitchen towels (this one is really pretty!), throw pillows, and blankets. You might not be ready to pack away your down comforter just yet, but you can give it a lighter look. These small changes can make a huge difference!
3. Freshen Up.
Bring in the sights and smells of spring! Fresh flowers are an obvious and wonderful choice. I always grab a bundle of daffodils when they first appear in the supermarket—that’s when it really feels like spring to me. Another great way to bring in spring is to use spring-scented candles or essential oils. Try lilac or gardenia or honeysuckle candles for something floral, or something citrusy or fresh. For EOs, give one of these recipes a try in a diffuser:
- 2 drops Peppermint and 2 drops Lemon
- 2 drop each of Lavender, Rosemary, and Lemon
- 3 drops Lemon, 3 drops Peppermint, 2 drops Lavender
Definitely also consider incorporating a little more spring in your home decor. Here are some ideas:
- A floral wreath for your front door (the lovely forsythia wreath pictured above is surprisingly affordable!)
- Bring in some potted plants that are easy to care for (this hanging planter is great if you don’t have a lot of surface space for plants)
- Switch out artwork for something springy-feeling and happy
- Change up your hand soaps, shower soap, and lotions for something that fits the season
I hope this gives you some good ideas to help make your home more beautiful joyful this spring! What are your favorite ways to bring spring into your home? Let me know in the comments!
